the local food project at airlie

That same day (March 6th) UFVDC visited the Local Food Project at Airlie.  The Local Food Project is an urban farm on the grounds of the Airlie Foundation and Conference Center in Fauquier County, VA.

"Do I smell garlic?"

We met with the Coordinator, Anna Whalen, and we spoke with her about her experiences with urban agriculture with and before she began working on the Local Food Project.  Since it was still pouring, we took shelter in the hoophouse, where the Local Food Project was growing a variety of crops for the spring planting.  Anna told us about her plans (in the near future) for having groups of volunteers help her with the farm.  We also experimented with the enormous broadfork.

"...garlic? W--what garlic?"
